Spring Books for Kids + What’s in our Easter Baskets

We’re racing toward spring break and, before we hit the road, the Easter bunny has us frantically filling baskets and stuffing eggs. Easter is a family favorite around here and finding books that don’t contain religious themes can be a challenge. Thankfully, gift-giving is my love language and this is when my mile-long list of gift ideas and book recommendations becomes particularly useful. There are so many great options below and if you’re trying to spend less and reduce waste like I am, here’s a pro tip: just borrow these from the library and shove them in an Easter basket as you would a title you own. You’ll get a week or two of mileage out of them before kids grow bored and are ready to move on to something else anyway. And speaking of Easter baskets, I’m sharing what we’re preparing for the kids, my partner, and myself. (As the chief magic maker in my home, I never forget to gift myself the good stuff.)

For the Kids (Boys, 4 & 6)

Generally, we try to stick to things we know that the boys both need and will love. My kids are still young enough to get very excited by things like rain boots and electric toothbrushes and yet old enough to manipulate and keep track of toys with small parts like these these SmartLab kits. In a addition to a few books, I’ll toss in some candy and a few thrifted items.

For the Hubs

My hubby is just a big kid (in the best way) and as we both start to re-immerse ourselves in the stories and stuff we loved from childhood, gift giving becomes so much fun. We just started rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy and so I was obsessed with the LOTR poster as soon as I saw it. Of course there are also legos and some D&D goodies for my favorite dungeon master.

For Me!

I know some women lament the idea of stuffing their own stocking or filling their own Easter basket. Let me tell you: I am not one of those women. There is nothing I love more than an opportunity to get myself a little treat. I have a current obsession with Japanese stationary items and my early-2000s high school self literally squealed with delight at the sight of these recent award-winning gel pens. I’m also very excited to try this new-to-me tea brand — I’m hooked based on the names alone!
